The polygraph examination consists of three parts: pre-test, in-test, and post-test. A thorough
introduction to the polygraph is provided at the time of the examination.
We have taken a few steps to enhance your knowledge of how the polygraph works by answering a
few of the most common questions.
Q: Does the polygraph really work?
A: Yes, if the polygraph is conducted by a professional, qualified, ethical and skilled examiner.
Q: Do I have to pay in advance?
A: A $100.00 non-refundable deposit is required at the time you schedule the appointment. When
you arrive at the examiner’s office for your test, the $100.00 deposit will be included in the cost of
your test. Should you not show up for your appointment, you forfeit your deposit.
Q: Can I bring my own questions I wish to be asked during my examination?
A: No, that would not result in a valid test. However, the examiner will go over all questions you will
be asked on your test during the pretest part of your examination. There WILL BE NO SURPRISE
QUESTIONS.
Q: What are the steps taken to conduct a valid polygraph test?
A: The examiner will conduct a pretest first. This serves multiple purposes such as to take care of
any outside issues that might contaminate your actual test. This part of the polygraph will also let
the examiner know if you are suitable for testing, and any concerns will be addressed. All
questions that will be asked during your actual test will be discussed with you during this time. A
through overview of what to expect during your test will be discussed. Also any questions you have
will be completely satisfied.
Q: Can I bring someone with me?
A: Yes, you can, however, they must sit out in the waiting area. No one is allowed in the polygraph
suite except the examinee and the examiner.
Q: What if I’m nervous -will this cause me to fail my polygraph test?
A: Absolutely not. Everyone is a little nervous at first. The Polygraph instrument only measures the
physiological changes within your body which occur as a result of malingering.
Q: What can I do to make certain I pass the test?
A: Be 100% truthful with the examiner on all questions asked.
Q: What if the test shows me guilty, when I know I’m innocent?
A: The examiner will run another series of tests should an outside issue show up during the
examination.
Q: How long does a polygraph test last?
A: Usually about 2 – 2.5 hours. It’s very important you be on time for your test.
Q: When will I know my results?
A: All charts are scored immediately after your test and you will know before you leave the examiner’
s office.
Q: What do I wear?
A: Comfortable casual clothing is preferred. However, you may wear whatever you are comfortable
wearing.
Q: Once I am connected to the polygraph, can I leave if I choose to?
A: Yes, you can. Just let the examiner know, and all components will be removed immediately with
no questions asked.
